Meet the Artist: 5 Minutes with Kimmy Hogan

Was there a pivotal moment when you decided to follow your path as an artist? Yes, there was. I had worked for many years feeling unsatisfied in various commercial design firms so I had been experimenting with art on the side for my creative fix. After doing a heap of research and planning, I decided I had to follow my dreams and pursue an artistic career. I’ve never looked back!  Can you tell us about the process of making your work? My process is continually changing and lately, I have really enjoyed hitting the pencil and paper first before getting on the computer. I start with some rough sketches in my journal to establish shapes and composition, usually drawing on...

Meet the Artist: 5 Minutes with Beth Kennedy

When did you realise that you wanted to become an artist? I was about 16. I’d always loved to paint and draw and was loving my art classes in high school. I had a brilliant teacher. It’s always just fascinated me, art history and the processes of drawing and painting… I never wanted to do anything else. I finished advanced art in high school, went straight to TAFE and worked two jobs while completing my Certificate in Visual Arts before moving to Canberra to complete my degree in Visual Arts at the Australian National University. Can you tell us about your process? I developed the processes that I still use today while studying painting, life drawing & art history at...

I’d painted before as part of my design work, but I really wanted to see if I could make a go of it and it seemed the perfect time to try. And the rest is history! Now I love what I’m doing every single day. Can you tell us about your process? My design background sort of dictated that I create my concepts digitally, so I find myself ‘collecting’ tons of textures, colours, inspo and...

Meet the Artist: 5 Minutes with Katie Wyatt

Was there a pivotal moment when you decided to follow your path as an artist? Yes, definitely. I remember being only four years old and telling my mum I wanted to have an exhibition but, of course, I didn’t actually know what one was. I had a wonderful childhood and was encouraged to paint and draw from a very early age. I was lucky that my parents recognised early on that I had a love of art and craft, so they encouraged me as a child. Mum kept me stocked up with sticky tape, paper, pens, pencils, and empty boxes. Recently I discovered the drawings my Grandfather did. My mum had held on to them over the years. It was...

Meet Julia Green: Interior Stylist and Founder of Greenhouse Interiors

It's not an easy task trying to sum up Melbourne interior stylist, writer, speaker and art curator Julia Green in just a few words. Not only does she wear a lot of hats, but she's made a significant impact on the interior styling industry. What's even more impressive is that she was propelled into said industry a mere eight years ago. Julia and her team at Greenhouse Interiors are known for making the process of sourcing homewares and original Australian artwork accessible, approachable and—perhaps most importantly—fun! It's this revolutionary business model combined with her innate talent, sheer work ethic, and fearlessness (especially when it comes to using colour) that has made Julia Green a household name.  You've said you accidentally...
